Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship candidate for the November 11 election in Kogi State, Dino Melaye, has accused the State Governor of importing thugs from Ogun, Lagos, and Oyo States to intimidate voters. Addressing a press conference, Melaye alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) had distributed fake police uniforms and camouflage to its thugs, intending to pose as law enforcement officers and cause havoc on election day.
Melaye claimed, “Intelligence available to our campaign reveals that the APC has sown fake police uniforms, camouflage which has already been brought into Kogi state and is ready to be distributed among APC thugs to parade as policemen and soldiers and unleash terror on innocent Kogites on election day.” He also accused the governor of bringing thugs from Ijebu in Ogun State, as well as hiring individuals from Lagos and Saki in Oyo State.
These allegations surfaced as the Inspector General Of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun revealed that police officers assigned to election duties had been authorized to take decisive actions against anyone attempting to disrupt the off-cycle election in Kogi, Imo, and Bayelsa. The current governor, Yahaya Bello, seeking re-election for a second term, is backing the APC candidate, Usman Ododo, for the upcoming governorship election on November 11.
