Sarah Nwankpo, a 26-year-old woman, currently resides in the custody of the Rivers State Criminal Investigation Department for the alleged murder of her male friend, Igbodike Anthony, in Port Harcourt. The incident transpired during an argument over a demand for more intimacy at Anthony’s residence in the Obiri-Ikwerre area.Originally from Ezza South Local Government in Ebonyi State, Sarah had moved to Port Harcourt four months before the tragic event in search of better opportunities, leaving behind a Senior Secondary School 3 education. She had been receiving persistent calls from Anthony, who she had known since 2017, despite being in a relationship with Joe Ibanga.Sarah shared that on December 22, 2023, she succumbed to Anthony’s invitation, meeting him at Kilimanjaro by Choba junction. Their evening included grocery shopping, preparing a meal, and engaging in intimate activities. Anthony later proposed financial stability and a job offer, urging Sarah to end her relationship with Ibanga and marry him. However, when she expressed a change of heart and decided to leave that evening, the situation escalated into a verbal altercation. Anthony allegedly became physically aggressive, prompting Sarah to defend herself using a dagger hidden in a detachable head of a walking cane.Sarah’s attempt to leave the scene was thwarted as Anthony held onto her hair. The commotion alerted the building’s owner and other occupants, leading to her temporary confinement until the police arrived on December 23, 2023. Despite efforts to rush Anthony to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries. While in custody, Sarah faced inquiries from Anthony’s family members and the deceased’s widow. Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, emphasized the need for caution in relationships, highlighting the ongoing investigation into the case.
