A 19-year-old resident of the Brewery area in Abeokuta, Adeola Saheed, has been sentenced to six months imprisonment by an Abeokuta Magistrates Court. He was found guilty of conspiracy, indecent assault, and attempted rape against a 35-year-old woman. Magistrate Mrs O.O Odumosu declared the prosecution successfully proved the case beyond reasonable doubt. Saheed received six months imprisonment for each charge, with an alternative of a N300,000 fine. The magistrate specified that the jail terms would run concurrently.During the trial, ASP Olakunle Shonibare, the prosecutor, explained that on October 12, 2023, around 12:30 pm, at Olomore Housing Estate in Abeokuta, the defendant, along with an accomplice now at large, conspired to commit the crime. Saheed entered the complainant’s compound wielding a plank and screwdriver, pretending to pursue a thief. Upon questioning the complainant about the alleged thief, Saheed attacked her when she reached for her phone to call her husband. He assaulted her with the plank, attempting to rape her, but her husband intervened, averting the assault.The charges against Saheed contravened sections 516, 360, and 359 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
