The Nigerian Federal Government has recently approved a significant salary increase for civil servants, marking a positive development for public sector workers. This increment, which varies between 25% and 35%, encompasses a wide spectrum of consolidated salary structures. These structures include the Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure (CONPSS), Consolidated Research and Allied Institutions Salary Structure (CONRAISS), Consolidated Police Salary Structure (CONPOSS), Consolidated Paramilitary Salary Structure (CONPASS), Consolidated Intelligence Community Salary Structure (CONICCS), and Consolidated Armed Forces Salary Structure (CONAFSS).

Moreover, the salary adjustment extends to employees in polytechnics and colleges of education, incorporating the Consolidated Polytechnics and Colleges of Education Academic Staff Salary Structure (CONPCASS) and Consolidated Tertiary Educational Institutions Salary Structure (CONTEDISS). Notably, the healthcare sector is also part of this wage enhancement through the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) and Consolidated Health Sector Salary Structure (CONHESS).

Emmanuel Njoku, the Head of Press at the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission (NSIWC), released a statement affirming that these salary increments come into effect from January 1, 2024. Additionally, the Federal Government has extended its support to pensioners by approving a pension increase ranging from 20% to 28% for those under the Defined Benefits Scheme linked to the six aforementioned consolidated salary structures. This pension adjustment mirrors the commitment to ensuring the financial well-being of retired public servants and is also effective from January 1, 2024.
