Veteran Nigerian singer Gentleman Mike Ejeagha was moved to tears of joy upon discovering that his 1986 song, “Gwo Gwo Gwo Ngwo,” had resurfaced and gone viral, thanks to skit maker Brain Jotter.
Released 38 years ago, the highlife track had faded into obscurity until it was recently brought back into the spotlight by Brain Jotter. The resurgence began when Brain Jotter, a prominent content creator, incorporated the song into one of his skits, creating a dance challenge that matched the music.
On Instagram, Brain Jotter’s video featuring Ejeagha’s song garnered 659,000 likes, while on TikTok, it achieved over 11 million views. This led to the music and dance challenge becoming viral, spreading across Nigeria and even reaching various Asian countries.
The song’s revival has prompted other content creators to honor Mike Ejeagha. In a touching moment captured on video, the elderly musician broke down in tears. A TikToker, @anyigoldtv, presented him with an envelope, reportedly containing money, and informed him of the song’s newfound success.
The highlife artist was deeply moved by the recognition and expressed his heartfelt gratitude, offering prayers in appreciation of the efforts made to revive his music.
