Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, has announced the arrest of seven individuals in connection with the murder of Mojisola Awesu, a 21-year-old graduate from Kwara State College of Health Technology. Mojisola was reportedly invited to Ilorin by Adebayo Happiness, a former Summit University student, to pose as his girlfriend at a party for a fee of N15,000. She was allegedly killed in a hotel room where she was staying on August 9, 2024.
During a press conference at the police headquarters in Ilorin, Olaiya disclosed that those arrested include Adebayo Happiness, his parents Pastor Adebayo Adeniyi and Mrs. Bukola Adeniyi, Miss Kolawola Timileyin who introduced Mojisola to Happiness, and three hotel staff members present at the crime scene: Adeoye Adeola, Lawal Amina, and Bulus Peter.
Olaiya detailed that after the murder, Happiness returned to Offa and hid Mojisola’s phone in his hostel. The investigation led to the arrest of his parents, who were found attempting to tamper with evidence. Mrs. Bukola Adeniyi had removed the SIM card from Mojisola’s iPhone and concealed it in a wall away from their home, contradicting Happiness’ claim that he had disposed of the phone in Afelele River. Both the phone and SIM card were recovered from the Adeniyis.
Further inquiries revealed that the hotel staff, upon finding Mojisola’s body, unlawfully disposed of her remains at a refuse dump.
Olaiya assured the public that the suspects will be charged following the completion of the investigation. He reaffirmed the Kwara State Police Command’s dedication to justice and community safety, with more updates to be provided as the investigation continues.
