A man named Joseph Ada, suspected of car theft, was arrested by the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command. Ada revealed that he planned to use the money from selling his former employer’s car to cover the costs of his father’s burial.

The arrest was detailed in a statement shared on the RRS Facebook page. According to the report, Ada had duplicated the key to the vehicle while he was employed as a driver. After being dismissed from his job in June, he allegedly stole the car from where it was parked in the Lekki area and drove to Ikeja with the intention of selling it.

The RRS operatives, acting on intelligence, apprehended Ada in Ikeja. The statement said, “Around 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, acting on intelligence, arrested Ada Joseph, 27, in Ikeja, Lagos, for attempting to sell his former employer’s car.”

Ada reportedly took the 2015 Toyota Camry from its parking spot in Osapa, London, Lekki, at around 7:00 a.m. By 11:00 a.m., he had arrived at the Central Business District, Alausa, to find a buyer for the car.

The statement further explained that Ada had been let go by his employer in June 2024 after working for him for about a year. Unbeknownst to his employer, Ada had secretly made a copy of the car key in advance.

Upon his arrest, Ada admitted to the theft, stating that his motive was to sell the car to pay for his father’s burial expenses. The vehicle’s owner was notified, and both Ada and the recovered car were handed over to the State Command for further investigation.

In a related incident, Drivetvnews reported on July 3 that the Lagos State Police Command had detained a 36-year-old robbery suspect, Amos Daniel, who stole a vehicle from his employer on the very day he was hired as a driver. Daniel reportedly claimed that he took the vehicle to his church to testify about God’s blessing.
