The Nigerian Police Force has arraigned a teacher, Stella Nwadigo, for allegedly assaulting a three-year-old student, Abayomi Michael.
This was confirmed by the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, through a statement shared on his social media account, ‘X,’ on Friday, January 8, 2025.
The case was presented at the Magistrate’s Court in Ogba, Lagos. Nwadigo, a teacher at Christ Mitots Primary School in Ikorodu, Lagos State, was captured on video physically assaulting the young boy in her class. She was arrested on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, following the incident.
The incident sparked widespread outrage, with many condemning the teacher’s actions. The court has ordered Nwadigo to be remanded at Kirikiri Prison and adjourned the case to February 18, 2025, for further proceedings.
In response to the incident, the management of Christ Mitots Primary School announced Nwadigo’s suspension from her duties as both a teacher and staff member. In an official statement, the school described her behavior as unacceptable and contrary to the institution’s core values and policies.
“We are aware of the disturbing incident involving one of our teachers and a student, which has been widely circulated on social media. The behavior displayed in the video is unacceptable and violates our school’s policies,” the statement read.
“Our commitment is to provide a safe and nurturing environment for our students. This behavior is not reflective of what we stand for. We have taken immediate action by suspending the teacher and have launched a thorough investigation.”
