A tragic domestic dispute in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, ended in the deaths of a couple who fatally attacked each other with machetes. Their bodies were discovered on Tuesday in their home in the Ita Eku area of Igirigiri, where they lived with their four children.

 

Reports suggest that ongoing conflicts between the couple were linked to allegations of infidelity against the husband, identified as Caleb, who was said to be a policeman. Witnesses noted that both suffered deep machete wounds, indicating a violent struggle.

 

A viral video shared on Instagram by Daodu Sammy Gbenga on Thursday features one of their children, a 13-year-old boy, recounting what happened before the tragic event. Wearing white underwear and blue jeans in the video, he stated that there were no apparent signs of conflict between his parents on the night of the incident.

 

According to the boy, his father had previously mentioned wanting to share his struggles but became uneasy whenever his mother was around. “Before he died, my dad told me he had a story to share, but he always became fearful when my mom was home. I asked him why, but he never answered,” he recalled.

 

On the night of the tragedy, the boy said his parents appeared to be on good terms, engaging in conversations, laughing, and even praying together as a family.

 

“My father came home around 9 p.m. but didn’t eat because my mother hadn’t returned yet. When she arrived, they talked and played together, giving no sign of trouble,” he recounted.

 

Later that night, after the family prayers, everyone went to bed. However, the boy was suddenly awakened by the sound of a machete.

 

“I quickly woke my sister, and we tried to enter their room, but the door was locked. My sister ran outside, grabbed a stone, and tried to break the door open, but it wouldn’t budge. Meanwhile, we could still hear our parents screaming at each other. We rushed to the neighbors for help,” he explained.

 

By the time they returned with assistance, the house had gone silent. The neighbors forced the door open and found the couple lying in pools of blood. They were rushed to the hospital but did not survive.

 

A local resident who spoke about the case suggested that the confrontation had turned deadly. “It looked like they had a serious fight. There are rumors that the woman may have inflicted a severe injury on her husband, and he retaliated fatally. However, no one knows exactly what happened,” the source said.

 

Confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officer SP Sunday Abutu stated that authorities have launched an investigation to determine the full details of what led to the tragic deaths.
