The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has taken a 42-year-old man, Victor Okoh, into custody in Oron, Akwa Ibom State, for allegedly murdering his wife, Victoria Okoh, 38, at their home.
According to a statement released on Monday by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, officers responded to a distress call from concerned neighbors around 5:20 a.m. Upon arrival, they found the victim’s mutilated body outside the residence she shared with her husband.
Preliminary findings suggest that the suspect attacked his wife with a machete following accusations of infidelity. Reports also indicate that he attempted to evade arrest by hiding in the ceiling of their house. However, police officers tactically secured the premises, forced entry, and successfully apprehended him.
Authorities recovered the machete used in the crime and documented the scene with photographs for further investigation. The victim’s body has since been taken to the General Hospital Morgue for an autopsy, while the suspect remains in police custody as inquiries continue.
The state’s Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, strongly condemned the act and assured the public that justice would be served. He also urged residents to resolve disputes peacefully rather than resorting to violence.
Reaffirming the command’s commitment to public safety, he encouraged citizens to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
