Former Governor of Oyo State, Chief Omololu Olunloyo, has died just days before his 90th birthday.
Chief Olunloyo, who also held the traditional titles of Balogun of Oyo and Otun Bobasewa of Ife, passed away in the early hours of Sunday.
His death was officially announced in a statement released by Barrister Oladapo Ogunwusi, a former Editor of the Nigerian Tribune.
The statement read: “With deep sorrow but with gratitude to God for a life dedicated to service, we announce the passing of Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, former Governor of Oyo State, accomplished mathematician, engineer, and respected technocrat, only a few days before his 90th birthday.
“Dr. Olunloyo, who was the Balogun of Oyo and Otun Bobasewa of Ife, was also the pioneer Rector of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, and the first Rector of Kwara State Polytechnic. His numerous contributions to the development of education and governance in Nigeria remain a source of pride to his family and all who knew him.
“The Olunloyo family appeals for the public’s understanding and privacy as preparations begin for his funeral.”
