An unidentified woman was discovered dead and dumped in a drainage channel along OGTV Road in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State. Her body was reportedly mutilated, with her private parts removed.
According to a local resident who spoke anonymously due to the sensitive nature of the incident, the body was found early Tuesday morning. Alarmed by the gruesome discovery, residents promptly notified law enforcement authorities.
The source explained that it was unclear how the body ended up at the location, but on closer inspection, it was evident that the woman’s private parts had been severed. “She was lying lifeless in a gutter. People suspect it was a ritual killing because of the missing body part. The police later arrived and transported her remains to the morgue at the State Hospital in Ijaiye,” the source said.
When contacted on Thursday for an official statement, Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, stated that she would provide more information, but had not responded as of the time of this report.
A high-ranking security officer familiar with the case told our correspondent that the deceased was believed to be a sex worker. According to him, the victim’s colleagues recounted that she had been picked up by a man the previous evening at a well-known location in Oke-Ilewo.
Her body was later found with deep machete cuts to the neck and hands, and her genitalia had been removed. “Her friends said a man picked her up at Iwe-Iroyin, Oke-Ilewo. Sadly, she was later found dead with multiple injuries and mutilation,” the officer confirmed.
A similar incident was reported in August 2023, when fear spread across parts of Ibadan, Oyo State, following the discovery of a young nurse’s body. The nurse, Omoniyi Boluwatife—a graduate of Lead City University who had recently been inducted into the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria—was allegedly found dead without her womb after a night out celebrating her induction at a nightclub.
