Oriyomi Hamzat, the founder of Agidigbo 88.7 FM in Ibadan, has expressed confidence in his chances of winning the Oyo State governorship election should he decide to run in 2027.
Hamzat made this statement during a live broadcast in which a caller from overseas urged him not to consider running for the state’s top political office. The caller cautioned that public support might not translate into actual votes when it matters most.
The caller said, “Ignore those claiming Oyo is calling on you to run. That’s not true. Even though you help the people, don’t expect them to vote for you during the election. They won’t.
“Don’t be misled. Even in the area where your station is located, politicians could sway voters with money, and you might lose there.
“Yes, you are a good and capable person, but unfortunately, that doesn’t guarantee electoral support.”
In response, Hamzat rejected the caller’s concerns, asserting that he is fully capable of making his own political decisions and won’t be discouraged by pessimistic opinions.
“Stop saying I won’t get votes. You might end up being the reason I choose to run,” he said. “I think for myself, and I’m not interested in hearing this kind of advice again.
“If I decide to contest, I will. And I believe I will win. You can’t tell me otherwise.
“You’re using past experiences to judge the future. You don’t know what’s in the hearts of the voters.”
