Prominent Lafia businessman Alhaji Sani Sabo was shot dead by suspected bandits, while angry residents killed one attacker as others fled.
A prominent businessman, Alhaji Sani Sabo, has been shot dead by suspected bandits in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State.
Eyewitnesses reported that the attack occurred around 9:20 p.m. on Sunday when armed men invaded the area and opened fire on the businessman before attempting to flee.
Enraged residents quickly mobilized, confronting the attackers and killing one of them, while the others managed to escape.
Alhaji Sani, widely known for his philanthropic contributions, was said to have supported many underprivileged members of the community.
“This tragedy has deeply shaken Lafia. He was more than a businessman; he was like a brother to me,” a local source said. “Mourners have gathered at his home, and his burial is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. today.”
As of press time, neither the state government nor security agencies had released an official statement regarding the incident.
