A mob in Abuja set three suspected touts ablaze after they allegedly caused a fatal crash that killed a man, his wife, and their son on the Mabushi Bridge
Chaos erupted in the Mabushi area of Abuja on Wednesday after three suspected park touts, known locally as agbero, were beaten and set ablaze by an angry mob. The attack followed a tragic accident that killed a man, his wife, and their son.
According to eyewitnesses, the touts, believed to be linked with the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), confronted the family’s car while attempting to extort money. In the process, they allegedly forced their way inside and tried to seize the steering wheel, which caused the vehicle to crash on the Mabushi Bridge. All three family members reportedly died instantly.
A video clip obtained by SaharaReporters showed the suspects lying on the ground before an unknown individual poured petrol on them and set them on fire. In the background, voices called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to take action against touts operating in the capital, citing frequent cases of intimidation and violence.
One witness said:
“These AMAC touts are a menace in Abuja. They chased this man, dragged his steering, and the whole family died. The minister must stop them before more lives are lost.”
As of press time, the FCT Police Command had not issued any official statement on the killings or the mob’s action.
