The United Bank for Africa (UBA) has confirmed a fire outbreak at a building on Broad Street, Lagos Island, which accommodates one of its branches.

In a statement issued on Tuesday via its official X (formerly Twitter) account, the bank clarified that the incident did not affect its corporate head office.

“We are aware of the fire incident at a building on Broad Street, Lagos Island, which happens to house one of our branches. Contrary to online reports, the affected property is not UBA House, Marina, our head office,” the statement read.

UBA also assured customers and the public that no casualties were recorded and that adequate safety measures had been put in place.

“We have ensured the safety and well-being of our staff and customers at the affected branch,” the bank added.

The incident attracted attention because it occurred in Lagos Island’s busy commercial district, home to multiple banks, offices, and business centres. Emergency responders were said to have arrived promptly to contain the situation, though full details of the outbreak were still emerging as of press time.

The bank urged customers and stakeholders seeking further information to contact it through official channels: cfc@ubagroup.com or 0700 2255 822.

This development comes amid growing concerns about fire safety standards in commercial buildings across Lagos, especially within the state’s central business areas, where several incidents have been reported in recent months.
