A dramatic scene unfolded at an Area Court in Ilorin on Thursday when a woman, Mulikat Yusuf, fainted moments after her husband, Ishaq Abdulganiyu, firmly declared his intention to end their marriage.
During the hearing, Abdulganiyu told the court he was no longer interested in continuing the union. In response, Yusuf pleaded with the court, saying she was unwilling to accept the divorce, especially after bearing six children for her husband. She asked where she was expected to go if the marriage ended.
Eyewitnesses said the mother of six appeared distressed as she left the courtroom. Moments later, she reportedly collapsed outside the courtroom. Court officials rushed to her aid and revived her by sprinkling water on her.
Presiding Judge Toyin Aluko advised Yusuf to make every possible effort to reconcile with her husband, urging both parties to seek peaceful resolution before the next court sitting.
The matter was adjourned until December 10 for a report on possible settlement or continuation of the hearing.
