The Osun State Government has named Nigerian music superstar David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, as the Chairman of the Osun Sports Trust Fund, an initiative established to mobilize resources and enhance the state’s sports sector.
During a courtesy visit by the Osun chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), the Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Sports, Kola Adewusi, made the announcement, emphasizing that Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration is committed to revitalizing sports development in the state.
Adewusi revealed that Davido, who is the governor’s nephew, accepted the appointment “without hesitation.” He expressed confidence that the artist’s international reputation and influence would attract substantial private investments and sponsorships for sports growth across Osun State.
According to Adewusi, the creation of the Sports Trust Fund will serve as a key platform to “draw support from sports philanthropists both within and outside the state,” ensuring sustainable funding for long-term sports development.
He further highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to renovate and modernize the Osogbo Township Stadium, noting that the upgraded facility is expected to meet Olympic standards upon completion. The project, he assured, “will be delivered in the shortest possible time.”
Additionally, Adewusi disclosed that plans are underway to establish the Osun State Sports Commission, a central agency that will oversee sports administration, development, and policy implementation across the state.
The deputy governor expressed optimism that Davido’s leadership will mark a new era for sports in Osun, describing the appointment as a strategic move toward achieving the administration’s vision of creating a world-class sporting environment.
