Operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps, have intercepted a truck carrying 38 individuals suspected to be from northern Nigeria into Akure, the state capital. The vehicle, a brand-new Mercedes-Benz truck with registration number GML 335 XR (Jigawa), was stopped during a routine security patrol in the Cathedral area of Akure South Local Government Area on Sunday.

According to Chief Adetunji Adeleye, Commander of the Amotekun Corps, the occupants of the truck could not provide a clear explanation for their presence in Ondo State. “We are conducting thorough profiling of all individuals to determine their identities and intentions. Those found to have violated the law will face prosecution, while others will be returned to their states of origin,” Adeleye stated.

The truck reportedly contained coal, and the location where the passengers were picked up is considered a security hotspot, which heightened the suspicion of the security operatives. Most of the passengers are youths aged between 20 and 27 who claimed to be visiting relatives, but they could not provide verifiable addresses or contact information.

During the operation, one of the passengers was reportedly found in possession of a uniform marked “Commander” along with some charms. He claimed to be a hunter, but could not clearly explain his travel plans after leaving Gombe State. The truck driver and his assistant also stated that they had no prior association with the passengers and had picked them up along the route.

The Amotekun Corps continues to investigate the matter as security agencies work to maintain safety and protect lives across the state.
