The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has addressed circulating reports suggesting that he deliberately snubbed the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, during an inter-faith gathering in Ibadan.

Speaking to journalists in Ibadan, Oba Ladoja described the claims as a misunderstanding that has been misrepresented and exaggerated, emphasizing that his actions were unintentional and dictated by protocol rather than any form of disrespect.

“There was no intention whatsoever,” Oba Ladoja said. “What happened was not deliberate and has been misinterpreted, especially on social media.”

He explained that he arrived at the event slightly late and was focused on reaching his assigned seat without causing disruption. The positioning of his seat required him to navigate through sections of the hall already occupied by other dignitaries.

“My seat was located between the Soun and the Alaafin. I had to pass through some people to get there. I did not avoid or ignore anyone,” the Olubadan clarified.

Oba Ladoja noted that video clips shared online did not capture the full sequence of events, often presenting a misleading view. “If you watch the complete footage, you will see that I greeted many people, including the governor. Social media sometimes takes things out of context,” he added.

Regarding any potential grievances arising from the incident, the Olubadan confirmed that communication had been made with relevant parties and insisted there is no tension or offense between the traditional institutions.

Beyond addressing the controversy, Oba Ladoja reaffirmed his commitment to fostering unity and social development, particularly among the youth. “My focus remains on uniting the present generation and those to come. We must prioritize education and activities that promote real progress in society,” he concluded.
