The Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, Iyamah Daniel Edebor, has confirmed the arrest of police officers captured in a viral video allegedly assaulting a tricycle rider in the state.
In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Musa Mohammed, on behalf of the Bayelsa State Police Command, the commissioner strongly condemned the incident, describing the officers’ actions as unacceptable and a clear violation of professional policing standards.
The statement emphasized that the command has zero tolerance for human rights violations, misconduct, or brutality by its personnel. According to the police, the behavior displayed in the video does not reflect the values or ethics of the Nigeria Police Force.
It further disclosed that the officers involved have been taken into custody and that disciplinary നടപട have already begun in line with the Police Act and other relevant regulations guiding police conduct.
CP Edebor reassured the public of the command’s commitment to protecting the rights and safety of residents across Bayelsa State. He reiterated that law enforcement duties must always be carried out lawfully, professionally, and with respect for human dignity.
The Bayelsa State Police Command also urged members of the public to continue cooperating with the police while reporting any form of misconduct, assuring that such reports will be treated seriously and addressed appropriately.
