The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a suspect linked to the death of young music star Adesina Afeez, popularly known as Destiny Boy.

Police authorities said the case has now been handed over to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department to allow for an in-depth investigation.

In a statement released on Monday, the command’s spokesperson, Babaseyi Oluseyi, disclosed that investigations began immediately after the incident was reported and that one person is currently in police custody.

According to him, “The Ogun State Police Command has commenced investigations into the death of Adesina Afeez, aged 22, popularly called Destiny Boy. The case has been transferred to the State CID, Homicide Section, for detailed investigation. One suspect has been arrested, while investigations are ongoing.”

News of the singer’s death became public on Sunday after videos showing his lifeless body being taken to a mortuary spread across social media platforms, leading to widespread grief and speculation. In one of the circulating clips, Destiny Boy was seen lying inside a vehicle with cotton wool placed in his ears and nostrils.

As rumours continued to spread, a close associate of the late singer later released a video urging the public to avoid false narratives. The associate stated that Destiny Boy had been struggling with a health condition before his death and that efforts were made to help him, but he eventually passed away.

Born Afeez Adeshina, Destiny Boy began his career in the entertainment industry at an early age. He honed his skills at T2 Boys Studios in Agege, Lagos, where he worked as a backup dancer for renowned Fuji musician, Pasuma.

He gained nationwide attention in 2019 after releasing a Fuji-inspired cover of Davido’s hit song If, which went viral on social media. He later released several other covers and original songs, including Lamba, One Transaction, Gbese, Billion Dollar, Mio Gbonkankan and Lowkey.

The late singer is survived by his partner, Iremide, and their child, who was born in November 2024.

Police authorities assured the public that further details would be made available as the investigation continues.
