The son of the Oniwo of Afin, Oba Simeon Olanipekun, who was abducted by armed men in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, has been released after a ransom of ₦20 million was paid.
The victim, identified as Olaolu, a serving member of the National Youth Service Corps, regained his freedom on Monday. His release comes as his father and other victims abducted during the same incident remain in captivity.
A family source, who confirmed the development on Tuesday, said Olaolu was freed after prolonged negotiations with the kidnappers.
According to the source, the kidnappers dropped the young man at a herders’ settlement around Oreke in Ifelodun Local Government Area. He was later taken to a military base in Oreke, where the family was contacted.
The source added that Olaolu is currently receiving medical care at an undisclosed hospital, having endured physical and emotional trauma during his time in captivity.
Meanwhile, Oba Simeon Olanipekun is still being held by the abductors alongside other residents seized during the attack. The gunmen are reportedly demanding an additional ₦15 million for the monarch’s release.
