High Chief Owolabi Akinloye Olakulehin has been appointed as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland. This decision was made by the esteemed kingmakers of Ibadan, who also hold membership in the Olubadan-in-Council.

The deliberations took place within the dignified halls of Mapo Hall, a symbolic center of governance and tradition in Ibadan. Commencing around 11:00 am and concluding shortly after 12:00 pm, the meeting witnessed a profound moment in the city’s history.

At the helm of the proceedings was the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, none other than the distinguished former governor of Oyo State, High Chief Rasidi Ladoja. Under his guidance, the kingmakers engaged in the solemn task of selecting the next custodian of Ibadan’s heritage and legacy.

High Chief Olakulehin’s candidacy was proposed by the Osi Balogun of Ibadanland, High Chief Lateef Adebimpe, and met with unanimous approval from all present members. This nomination carries profound significance, as it follows the recent passing of the 42nd Olubadan, Oba Mahood Olalekan Balogun, whose tenure marked a chapter in Ibadan’s storied past.

It’s worth noting the absence of the Otun Balogun, Tajudeen Ajibola, from the proceedings, underscoring the gravity and exclusivity of the gathering.

With the decision ratified, the responsibility now falls upon the shoulders of the High Chiefs to transmit High Chief Olakulehin’s name to the state governor, Seyi Makinde, for official endorsement. This formalizes the transition of power and marks the beginning of a new era under the stewardship of the 43rd Olubadan.

This appointment resonates not only within the confines of Ibadan but also reverberates throughout the region, symbolizing continuity, tradition, and the enduring spirit of the city.
