The Oyo State Police Command reportedly arrested several protesters identified as members of the ‘Take it Back’ Movement during a rally in Ibadan, the state capital, on Wednesday.
According to Drivetvnews reports, the protesters gathered in the Mokola area of Ibadan to voice their concerns over the current economic difficulties facing Nigerians. Some of them were allegedly taken into custody by the police for organizing an unlawful protest and causing a disturbance to public peace.
The protesters were reportedly protesring for an end to economic hardships, insecurity, police brutality, and the reversal of electricity tariffs. They were detained following intelligence reports of disorderly conduct in the vicinity where they had assembled.
The group reportedly grew confrontational at times, engaging in altercations with the police officers deployed to maintain security in the area. Consequently, several individuals were arrested to prevent any significant breach of peace in the locality.
As of the time of this report, the police have not issued a statement on the incident, and the exact number of individuals detained remains undisclosed.
