The Coroner’s Court sitting in Ikorodu, Lagos State, has granted permission to the family of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad, to conduct an independent autopsy and toxicology test. This decision follows the inconclusive nature of the initial autopsy conducted by the Lagos State Government, which the Aloba family contested. The court, chaired by T.A. Sonubi, ordered that the Aloba family bear all legal expenses related to these tests and mandated the presence of the deceased’s father, mother, and wife during the autopsy.

In a statement released by the family’s legal team, led by Taiwo Odumosu, they expressed satisfaction with the court’s ruling, emphasizing their desire for transparency in investigating Mohbad’s death. The family had applied for the independent autopsy due to suspicions surrounding the circumstances of Mohbad’s demise on September 12, 2023. They sought a second opinion after rejecting the initial autopsy results.

Additionally, the court addressed applications related to recalling witnesses and burial rights. Mohbad’s wife, Wunmi, applied to oversee his burial pending the autopsy’s conclusion, contingent on familial agreement or recourse to the High Court for resolution.

Mohbad, a former artist under Marlian Music owned by Naira Marley, passed away at 27, prompting a special investigation by the Lagos State Police Command and subsequent controversy. His autopsy and toxicology results have been contentious, with conflicting reports on where the toxicology tests were conducted. The investigation into his death remains ongoing.
