The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended a man, Taiwo Yemitan, suspected of engaging in ritual activities after being found in possession of a fresh human head and dismembered body parts of a female victim. The arrest occurred in the Lafenwa area of Abeokuta.

Omolola Odutola, the command’s spokesperson, revealed the incident in a statement issued on Sunday in Abeokuta.

According to Ms. Odutola, a superintendent of police, the 45-year-old suspect was arrested around 1:40 a.m. at his residence located behind Atinsola Petrol Station in Sanni, Abeokuta. The arrest followed a tip-off provided by local security groups, including the Agbekoya and vigilante operatives.

The suspect reportedly admitted to knowing the victim, identified as Darasimi, and confessed to luring her to his home with the intention of killing her. He further disclosed that two other individuals, identified as Kehinde Yemitan and Kazeem, were involved in the crime. Their plan, according to the suspect, was to sell the victim’s head and other body parts.

The dismembered remains of the victim have been deposited at the General Hospital morgue in Ijaye, Abeokuta, for an autopsy. Efforts are currently underway to locate the victim’s relatives and apprehend the accomplices.

Ms. Odutola confirmed that the suspect would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.

She also recalled a similar incident earlier this year when a suspect, Azeez Adebayo, confessed to killing three women he and his accomplices had lured through “hook-up” arrangements.

Ms. Odutola advised young women to avoid “hook-up” activities, emphasizing that many women involved in such arrangements have become victims of ritual killings. She also urged parents to take responsibility for guiding and monitoring their daughters to prevent such tragedies.
