In a tragic incident in Calabar, a 14-year-old boy named Donald allegedly took his own life on Saturday afternoon. He was found hanging from a wall with a shoelace tied around his neck in Ekondo Street. Donald, who lived with his grandmother, had gone to buy food that morning, and his absence raised concern among his friends and neighbors.
According to Eyo, one of Donald’s friends, nobody heard from him after he bought the food until noon when the grandmother called a carpenter for help. The carpenter, upon seeing the situation, ran out and alerted others, leading to the discovery of the boy’s lifeless body. Surprisingly, there was no apparent object nearby on which he could have climbed to hang himself, and the only thing used was a shoelace.
The police from Atakpa Police Station arrived to assess the situation, but no one, including the police, dared to touch the boy’s body. Witnesses were baffled by how a thin shoelace could have caused the tragic incident. Residents of the street expressed their disbelief, with one mentioning recurring nightmares about the boy, who was an orphan, seeking justice even in death.
This heartbreaking incident has left the community in shock, questioning the circumstances surrounding the young boy’s untimely death and seeking answers to the mysterious tragedy.
