The Zamfara State Police Command has thwarted two separate attacks by suspected armed bandits in parts of Zamfara State, leaving five people injured.

According to the command’s spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, the first incident occurred on April 9, 2026, around 7:30 p.m. along the Kadauri–Kizawa route in Maru Local Government Area. He explained that a group of gunmen, travelling on about 10 motorcycles and armed with rifles, confronted police officers stationed at a checkpoint.

The officers reportedly responded immediately, engaging the attackers in a gun battle that forced them to retreat into nearby forests with suspected injuries. During the exchange, a member of a local vigilante group was shot and taken to a hospital in Maru for treatment.

Abubakar added that calm has since returned to the area, with security operatives maintaining surveillance and patrol activities.

In a separate attack earlier that same day, at about 1:35 a.m., heavily armed bandits stormed Yar Galma village in Bukkuyum Local Government Area, firing shots and causing panic among residents.

A joint team of police officers and vigilantes quickly mobilised and confronted the attackers, who were again pushed back into the forest after sustaining injuries.

However, four residents were wounded during the incident and were transported to a medical facility in Bukkuyum, where they are currently receiving care.

The police command reassured residents of its commitment to protecting lives and property, while urging the public to continue providing timely and reliable information to support ongoing security efforts.
