The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of a cattle theft syndicate, recovered six stolen cows and thwarted a suspected abduction attempt in separate security operations across the state.
Drivetvnews gathered that the command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed the developments in a statement issued on Tuesday.
According to him, officers attached to the Sagamu Division arrested Abiodun Kamilu, 35, and Adesanya Segun, 37, after receiving a distress call reporting the theft of seven cows from a cattle yard in the Maskoli area of Sagamu.
Police said the report was received in the early hours of July 25, 2026, prompting operatives to launch coordinated patrols along identified escape routes. Acting on credible intelligence, officers intercepted suspicious vehicles along the Sagamu–Ijebu-Ode Expressway, disrupting the operation.
The suspects were arrested, six of the seven stolen cows were recovered, and the vehicle allegedly used in the operation was abandoned during the failed escape.
The command said investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate, recover the remaining cow and prosecute everyone involved.
In a separate operation, operatives of the Safer Highway Patrol Team foiled a suspected kidnapping attempt on July 26 at Onigaari along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
According to the police, officers on routine patrol quickly responded after hearing gunshots in the area. Their rapid deployment forced the suspected kidnappers to flee into a nearby bush, abandoning their mission.
The intended victim was rescued unharmed and escorted, alongside the vehicle, to the Ogunmakin Police Post for safety and further procedures.
Commending the officers involved, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, described the successful operations as evidence of the command’s improved operational capacity and commitment to tackling crime.
He reassured residents that the police remain in control of the state’s security situation and would continue to strengthen intelligence gathering, visibility policing, strategic patrols and coordinated tactical operations.
The commissioner also urged members of the public to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information to aid the fight against crime.
