The Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) has urged President Bola Tinubu to abolish tuition fees in Federal Government tertiary institutions, aiming to address challenges arising from the removal of fuel subsidy in Nigeria. During a news conference in Lagos, ECWA President Stephen Panya commended Tinubu’s efforts to restore the naira’s value but emphasized the need for immediate measures to mitigate hardships caused by the removal of fuel subsidy and currency floating.
Panya called for a substantial increase in workers’ wages, tuition-free status for federal institutions, and responsible fiscal management. He stressed the importance of cutting unnecessary expenses, enhancing revenue collection, and implementing targeted subsidies and social safety nets for vulnerable groups.
Additionally, Panya highlighted the constitutional affirmation of Nigeria as a secular, united, and indivisible country. He expressed concern about the country’s fractures along ethnic, regional, and religious lines, emphasizing the need for healing. Panya urged President Tinubu’s administration to work towards national unity, promoting inclusiveness and equitable distribution of democracy dividends.
He underscored the significance of the federal character principle in the 1999 Constitution and encouraged Nigerians to embrace love and unity, recognizing Nigeria as a product of divine providence. Panya called for collective efforts to translate diversities into strength, progress, and development, echoing the Christian commitment to living in peace with everyone.
