An Area Court in Centre-Igboro, Ilorin, finalized the dissolution of a 25-year-old marriage between Ramat Ibrahim and Ibrahim Ayinla, citing a lack of love as the grounds for separation. The Presiding Judge, Hammad Ajumonbi, emphasized that the petitioner’s statement indicated unsuccessful attempts at reconciliation, leading to the dissolution of the Islamic marriage.
Considering that the first and second children were now adults, the court granted them the right to choose their living arrangements. The judge mandated the respondent to take full responsibility for the children’s financial needs, including feeding, school fees, and medical expenses, to the best of his ability. The court also permitted the petitioner to retrieve all her belongings.
Ramat expressed fear of the respondent’s house, alleging his involvement in fetish practices and partiality with his co-wife as reasons for seeking divorce. Despite lacking a job and visible means of livelihood, she requested that the children stay with the respondent for the time being.
The respondent concurred with the petitioner’s decision for divorce, asserting that he did not want his wife in his house again to avoid further allegations. The court, therefore, concluded the dissolution proceedings, acknowledging the irreparable breakdown of the marital relationship.
