  1. Jemima Shetima Balami, a second-year Diploma student currently undertaking industrial attachment at Adamawa State Television in Yola, tragically ended her own life. The 24-year-old, who was the sole daughter of her father, hailed from Garkida in the Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State. This unfortunate incident unfolded following her boyfriend’s decision – a lecturer at Modibbo Adama University in Yola – to terminate their relationship. The heart-wrenching episode took place at Jemima’s residence in Vinikilang, a Riverside community near the state capital. The emotional turmoil resulting from her boyfriend’s announcement drove her to ingest a poisonous substance. The boyfriend’s affiliation with Modibbo Adama University adds a layer of complexity to the already tragic circumstances.SP Suleiman Nguroje, the Police Public Relations Officer in Adamawa State, confirmed the incident after Jemima’s father reported the suicide. Two conflicting versions of events have surfaced: one suggesting Jemima took her life upon learning of the relationship’s end, while the other indicates that her boyfriend advised her to terminate the relationship during a visit, leading to her tragic decision. In response to these conflicting narratives, the police assured a comprehensive investigation to uncover the details surrounding Jemima’s untimely death. The community mourns the loss of a promising young individual, highlighting the pressing need to address mental health issues and promote emotional well-being, particularly among students grappling with the challenges of academic and personal life.
