In a significant breakthrough, the Lagos State Police Command has successfully apprehended two individuals allegedly involved in a daring crime – the drugging of a school’s security guard and subsequent theft of valuable property worth millions of Naira. The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, delivered the crucial details during a press briefing held in Ikeja on Wednesday.According to SP Hundeyin, the incident unfolded on December 29, 2023, when the suspects strategically procured sedatives in close proximity to the targeted school. Executing a well-thought-out plan, they approached the school premises and engaged the unsuspecting security guard in seemingly innocuous conversations.Continuing their clandestine operation, the perpetrators purchased food from a nearby restaurant, subtly tampering with it by adding drugs, and then handed it over to the unwitting security guard. Once the guard consumed the drugged meal, the criminals capitalized on the situation to gain unauthorized access to the school’s administrative office.Inside the office, they methodically removed the ignition key to the school’s bus, a 65-inch television, and six inverter batteries – all items collectively valued in the millions. Undeterred, the criminals further fueled their audacious act by siphoning diesel from the school’s parking lot to power the bus, which they subsequently used as their getaway vehicle.Adding insult to injury, the thieves didn’t stop there; they also seized the security guard’s iPhone 11 before making their escape. The meticulous execution of this crime showcases a disturbing level of planning and coordination by the accused individuals. The swift action of the Lagos State Police Command in apprehending the suspects underscores the dedication of law enforcement to ensure the safety and security of the community. As investigations unfold, the police are working to recover the stolen property and bring the perpetrators to justice. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for heightened security measures, even within seemingly secure environments such as educational institutions. The police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to help prevent and combat such criminal acts in the future.
