In a recent ruling by the Jigawa State High Court No 6 in Birnin-kudu, two underage individuals, Ayuba Alkasim and Sale Muhammad, have been sentenced to a remand home in Kafin-Hausa. The court found them guilty of conspiring, ambushing, and repeatedly raping a young girl in the Girindi-Jaka village of the Buji Local Government Area in Jigawa State.

During the trial, the prosecution counsel, M.A. Fagam, presented a strong case, calling upon six witnesses and tendering four exhibits, including a medical report, to establish the guilt of the accused beyond any reasonable doubt. On the other side, Huwaila Ibrahim, acting as the defense counsel, represented the interests of the accused.

After carefully evaluating the evidence presented, Presiding Judge Justice Musa Ubale concluded that the prosecution had successfully proven the case. Based on the severity of the crime and considering that the defendants were underage, the court took into account their plea for leniency.

As a result, the court ordered that Ayuba Alkasim and Sale Muhammad be remanded at the reformatory home in Kafin-Hausa, with the decision being made on the mercy of the governor. This decision aims to address the offenses committed by the convicts while also providing an opportunity for rehabilitation and corrective measures.

By directing the convicts to a remand home, the court acknowledges the need for a holistic approach to their punishment, taking into consideration their young age. It emphasizes the importance of reforming the offenders and reintegrating them back into society as productive members.

This ruling serves as a reminder of the justice system’s commitment to protecting the rights and well-being of victims while also ensuring that perpetrators face appropriate consequences for their actions. Through this case, the Jigawa State High Court No 6 demonstrates its dedication to upholding the rule of law and combating crimes such as rape, particularly when committed by underage individuals.
