In Kaduna, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has taken decisive action against drug hawking, resulting in the arrest of three individuals and the seizure of substandard drugs worth N250,000. Mr. Nasiru Mato, the agency’s Coordinator in the state, disclosed this during an interview with journalists on Thursday.Mato emphasized that these efforts are part of an ongoing campaign to eliminate drug hawking in the state, citing the dangers posed by exposing medicines to extreme temperature, humidity, and adverse climate conditions.Furthermore, NAFDAC has intensified its surveillance and crackdown on individuals falsely claiming to be doctors and engaging in illegal medical practices. Mato highlighted that recent actions, such as the raid at Sabon Tasha, led to the confiscation of unregistered aphrodisiacs and analgesics.Stressing the importance of proper storage conditions, Mato reiterated that all drugs and medical items must be kept at the recommended temperature and humidity levels to maintain their safety, quality, and effectiveness. In light of these developments, Mato advised consumers to exercise caution when sourcing medicines, urging them to verify essential details such as the NAFDAC Registration Number, manufacturing date, expiry date, batch number, and complete location address of the manufacturer. He also urged consumers to opt for registered drug outlets rather than patronizing street vendors, reminding them that the ban on drug hawking and advertisement remains in effect.
