The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has issued a stern warning, indicating that any skit or filmmakers found using the agency’s uniform or associated colors, equipment, or accessories without proper authorization from the government will face legal action.Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the General Manager of LASTMA, conveyed this message on Thursday, following the circulation of a viral video on social media featuring two individuals wearing fake LASTMA uniforms. The video depicted one of them being revived through supernatural means after impounding a white ‘Sienna’ Space bus on the road.Bakare-Oki expressed disapproval of the disrespectful portrayal of the LASTMA institution in movies and skits, emphasizing the violation of Section 79 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015, which prohibits unauthorized use of the agency’s uniform. He cautioned film and skit creators against impersonating LASTMA officers without obtaining a permit letter for such portrayals, warning of legal consequences for non-compliance.Emphasizing the importance of maintaining integrity in movie production and regulating the possession and usage of LASTMA uniform, Bakare-Oki highlighted that enforcing these measures would help reduce the proliferation of the agency’s attire and accessories in society.Bakare-Oki urged organizations like the National Association of Nigeria Theatre Arts Practitioners (NANTA) and other related bodies to advise their members accordingly, underscoring that anyone caught using LASTMA uniform without an approved permit would be prosecuted under Section 79 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
