The Federal Government has initiated the payment of withheld salaries belonging to public university lecturers affiliated with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).Comrade Nobert Oyibo Eze, the ASUU branch Chairman at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, confirmed this development to Drivetvnews, stating that although he’s yet to receive his payment, some of their colleagues have already received two months’ worth of salary out of the eight months that were previously withheld.Additionally, another lecturer informed Drivetvnews that the federal government commenced payments on Sunday, confirming that he has received two months’ salary out of the owed eight months.It’s worth noting that President Bola Tinubu approved the release of four months’ worth of salaries in October 2023, out of the eight months that were initially withheld.Previously, Former President Muhammadu Buhari had implemented a ‘No Work, No Pay policy’ against ASUU during their eight-month strike in 2022.
