On Friday night, chaos erupted near Kara-OPIC bus stop along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway as a mob reportedly set ablaze a white Toyota Hilux vehicle following a tragic accident that claimed three lives.

According to reports, the Hilux, bearing the number plate EPE80J, experienced brake failure, leading to it veering out of control and colliding with bystanders at the bus stop. The collision resulted in the deaths of three individuals, with two others sustaining injuries.

Florence Okpe, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, confirmed the incident in a statement released on Saturday. The injured victims were promptly transported to the Lagos Emergency Centre in Ojota for urgent medical attention.

Family members of two of the deceased retrieved their loved ones’ bodies for burial, while the third victim was taken to the Idera Morgue in Sagamu.

Describing the sequence of events, the statement outlined, “The crash occurred at about 2051hrs around Kara-OPIC bus stop. Six individuals, comprising five males and one female, were involved, resulting in two injuries and three fatalities, all male adults.”

“The primary cause of the crash was attributed to brake failure, causing the vehicle to lose control and collide with individuals at the bus stop. Subsequently, the enraged crowd set the vehicle ablaze in response to the tragic incident.”

This marks the third fatal accident reported along this route within the week, as highlighted by Drivetvnews.

Earlier on Thursday, a collision near Fidiwo Bridge claimed five lives and left four others injured. The accident involved a red prime bus with the registration plate MUS191HA and a golden Toyota Camry car registered as AKD754BG.

Similarly, on Wednesday, a crash near NASFAT involving two trucks and a bus resulted in the deaths of five individuals, with 10 sustaining injuries. Reckless driving, particularly the sudden U-turn without signaling by one of the truck drivers, was cited as the primary cause of the fatal collision.
