At the Grace of Comfort Parish of the Celestial Church of Christ in Ile-Ife, Osun State, the sacred altar, typically a site for prayer, tragically transformed into a scene of brutality. Most Senior Evangelist Morris Fadehan, the shepherd of the church, met his untimely demise allegedly at the hands of his assistant, Lekan Ogundipe, amid longstanding disagreements between them.Ogundipe, reportedly lying in wait within the church premises, launched a vicious attack on his victim while Fadehan prayed at the altar. The assault culminated in multiple stab wounds to the head, as well as the insertion of a nail through the ear and nose, before Ogundipe dragged the lifeless body from the altar, wrapped it in cloth, and set it ablaze.During the struggle, Ogundipe sustained injuries to his hand, while Fadehan managed to scratch him severely on the face. The conflict between them had escalated over various issues, including financial matters and alleged immoral behavior on Ogundipe’s part. Fadehan had expressed his intention to dismiss Ogundipe as his assistant, citing numerous transgressions, but sought approval from the church elders beforehand. The incident came to light when Ewa, a prophetess in the church, reported being assaulted by Ogundipe, who falsely claimed a romantic relationship with her. Fadehan reprimanded Ogundipe for his involvement, prompting further animosity. After allegedly committing the heinous act, Ogundipe hastily reported to Pa Olafare, the church’s owner, claiming to have discovered Fadehan’s body burning on the floor of the church. Subsequent investigation revealed signs of violence on the deceased’s body, leading to Ogundipe’s arrest. The Osun State Police Command has taken Ogundipe into custody for further investigation, while the deceased’s body awaits autopsy at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital. The community is left reeling from the tragic turn of events, as the once-sacred altar bears witness to an unspeakable act of violence.
