The Nigeria Police Force has announced the arrest of eight suspects linked to the tragic murder of its officers during a fact-finding mission in the Ughelli area of Delta State.
In a statement released on Saturday in Abuja, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the arrests and provided details of the incidents. He revealed that on February 23, officers conducting a fact-finding mission were ambushed, resulting in the loss of six police officers. Additionally, during a rescue mission, more officers were ambushed.
Adejobi explained that the arrests were made possible through diligent investigative efforts by police operatives. Initially, five suspects were apprehended shortly after the incident, and subsequently, three more were captured in different locations. The cooperation of the initial five suspects facilitated the arrest of the additional three.
The suspects are currently in police custody, actively cooperating with the ongoing investigation. The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to ensuring that all those responsible for the heinous crime are swiftly apprehended and brought to justice.
Adejobi expressed the police’s deep sorrow over the loss of their officers, emphasizing that the perpetrators of such violence would not escape punishment. He extended condolences to the families of the fallen officers and assured that justice would prevail.
The tragic events occurred on February 23 and 26, during duty assignments in the Ughelli area of Delta State, resulting in the loss of officers’ lives and the disappearance of six others.
