Suspected armed attackers have reportedly invaded Oro-Ago in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, killing a local vigilante commander and injuring the town’s chief security officer.

According to local sources, the incident occurred on Wednesday evening when heavily armed men stormed the community. The assailants, believed to be kidnappers, were said to have attempted to overrun the police station, leading to a confrontation with local security personnel.

During the attack, the commander of the vigilante group was killed, while the community’s chief security officer, popularly known as the Olu-òde and identified as Odeyemi, sustained gunshot injuries.

Eyewitness accounts indicated that the attackers operated in the area for over an hour, creating panic among residents. Many people reportedly fled their homes or sought refuge indoors to avoid the violence.

As of the time of this report, there had been no official statement from security agencies, and it was unclear whether additional forces had been deployed to restore order.

The incident is part of a growing pattern of insecurity in Oro-Ago and surrounding communities within Ifelodun Local Government Area, where cases of kidnapping and armed attacks have been on the rise.

Earlier intelligence reports had warned of possible coordinated attacks in parts of Kwara South, including Ifelodun, Irepodun, and Isin local government areas. Authorities had since urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movements.

Community leaders and security agencies continue to emphasise the need for cooperation from residents to help prevent further attacks and ensure safety across the affected areas.
