Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and several senior government officials escaped injury on Wednesday after a stage collapsed during a political rally in Ijebu-Jesa, located in Oriade Local Government Area of the state.
The rally, organised as part of preparations for the upcoming governorship election, drew party supporters and leaders who gathered to show support for the governor’s re-election bid.
According to eyewitness accounts, Governor Adeleke was seated on the platform alongside Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly Adewale Egbedun, and Imole Campaign Council spokesperson Pelumi Olajengbesi when the structure suddenly gave way.
A video from the event showed entertainers performing while the programme anchor was preparing to introduce the next segment before the platform unexpectedly collapsed, causing panic among those present.
The incident briefly disrupted the rally as supporters rushed toward the scene and security personnel quickly moved in to assist those on the platform and restore order.
A source at the event said the collapse created initial confusion but confirmed that none of the key officials sustained serious injuries. The programme reportedly resumed shortly after the situation was brought under control.
Authorities had not determined the cause of the collapse at the time of reporting.
