The Ogun State Police Command has thwarted an alleged kidnapping plot targeting a Chinese national and arrested two suspects believed to be involved in the planned operation.
The suspects, identified as Chinedu Onwuemena, 41, and Jimoh Ojo, 37, were apprehended following intelligence reports indicating that a kidnapping was being planned along the Ijebu-Ode/Odogbolu Expressway.
According to police authorities, officers attached to the Obalende Division acted swiftly after receiving credible information about the plot. A surveillance team was immediately deployed to the area, leading to the interception and arrest of the suspects before the operation could be carried out.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly planned to abduct the foreign national and demand a ransom of ₦50 million. Police also disclosed that the two suspects were not acting alone. A third accomplice is currently on the run, and efforts are ongoing to track and arrest the individual.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation aimed at uncovering the full extent of the alleged criminal network and identifying any additional collaborators.
