President Bola Tinubu has appealed to Nigerian doctors and other healthcare professionals living abroad to return home and contribute to rebuilding the country’s healthcare system.
Drivetvnews gathered that the President made the appeal on Friday while receiving members of the Nigerian Diaspora Medical Associations, led by the Director-General of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, at the State House in Abuja.
Reflecting on his own experience of studying and working in the United States before returning to Nigeria, Tinubu said there was no place like home and encouraged Nigerian medical professionals overseas to persuade their colleagues to come back and support national development.
He said his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda is focused on creating a better environment through improved education, economic growth, healthcare and prosperity for Nigerians.
Tinubu described the contributions of diaspora medical professionals as vital to strengthening the nation’s healthcare system and building a solid foundation for future generations.
The President also reaffirmed his commitment to tackling poverty, insisting that his government would continue working to improve the welfare and living conditions of citizens.
The meeting formed part of activities marking the 2026 National Diaspora Day Celebration, held from July 24 to 25 in Abuja, with the theme: “Harnessing Global Diaspora Medical Expertise to Strengthen Local Health Systems for National Development.”
