Tragedy struck on Sunday as a fatal road accident claimed the lives of at least 19 passengers at Kilometre 3, Sabo along the Oyo-Ogbomoso Expressway in Oyo Town.
The collision involved a Sokoto-bound white Toyota Hiace 18-seater bus bearing registration number NTT 522 ZY and a black Toyota saloon car. Sadly, the victims lost their lives at the scene, with only one survivor currently undergoing treatment at Opabode Hospital, Oyo.
Joshua Adekanye, the Oyo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), confirmed the incident, attributing it to a disregard for traffic laws. The crash occurred around 7:45 pm, and out of the 20 passengers across both vehicles, 19 perished instantly, with their bodies now at the General Hospital, Oyo.
According to Adekanye, the driver of the Toyota Hiace was traveling on the wrong lane towards Oyo when the collision with the Toyota Corolla occurred. He urged all road users to adhere strictly to traffic regulations to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
