A Nigerian man, identified as Kasimu Wali Tambuwal, has reportedly become blind after spending six months in the hands of suspected bandits. His family’s attempts to raise the ransom demanded for his release have so far been unsuccessful due to financial constraints.

In a distressing video obtained by SaharaReporters, Kasimu appeared weak and traumatized, speaking in Hausa to appeal urgently for help. He explained that the prolonged hardship, torture, and starvation during his captivity have severely affected his health and vision.

Kasimu directly addressed his family in the video, saying:

“Ina, this is Kasimu. Wherever you are, please, may God help me. Bring the money personally as instructed. If you follow the directions, they will release me by the roadside and arrange transportation home.”

He revealed that six months in captivity have left him gradually losing his sight and enduring extreme physical pain. He added:

“Please, I am begging you. I have suffered a lot. I can barely see. This is now my sixth month here. Anyone seeing this message must understand the danger I am in. Please help me.”

Kasimu also highlighted that his condition worsened during the holy month of Ramadan:

“We are already on the eighth day of fasting. I have been suffering here. Please come with the money in person, as instructed by the captors. Help me return to my family.”

During the recording, a voice believed to be one of the bandits could be heard instructing Kasimu to partially remove his clothing to demonstrate the extent of his suffering to his relatives.

He described the severe toll captivity had taken on his body:

“I am not gaining anything from this; I am only suffering. My hands barely function, and my joints ache constantly. Please, come with someone you trust and deliver the money directly. I am in serious danger.”

Kasimu concluded with an emotional plea, urging his family to set aside any disputes and focus on saving his life:

“Whatever issues exist between you and me can be resolved later. Right now, please, I am begging you to help me. We are in the eighth day of Ramadan, and you cannot imagine the conditions here. Help me, please.”
