A newborn baby boy, just a day old, was discovered abandoned in a polythene bag on Alhaji Masha Road in the Surulere area of Lagos State.
According to reports from Drivetvnews, a social worker from a Surulere hospital, whose identity remains unknown, heard the cries of a baby while en route to her destination. Upon investigating, she found the newborn boy inside the polythene bag and promptly took him to Randle General Hospital for urgent medical care.
Thankfully, the baby has been responding well to treatment. The Divisional Police Officer and a team from the family support unit visited the scene to conduct an investigation into the incident, which was reported at the Surulere Division on April 15, 2024, around 1:40 pm.
The authorities assured that the baby is safe and receiving necessary care. The investigation into the abandonment is ongoing.
In a similar incident reported by Drivetvnews in December 2023, a day-old baby was found abandoned in a carton in Zone ‘B’ Area in Dagbolu, Osun State. The state government urged residents to provide any information that could help identify the parents of the baby.
