The Oyo State Police Command has taken decisive action following the tragic death of Damilola Iyanda, a student who lost his life in a club altercation in Ogbomoso. In a statement provided to Drivetvnews by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, it was revealed that several officers, including Inspector Rasheed Saheed, have been detained in connection with the incident.

The situation unfolded when the police received a distress call from the director of a popular nightclub in the Owode-Ogbomoso area, reporting disturbances caused by suspected student cultists. In response, a team of officers led by Inspector Rasheed Saheed rushed to the scene. However, the confrontation escalated, with the alleged cultists resisting police intervention and shots reportedly fired from various directions, including by the responding officers.

Tragically, the altercation resulted in the death of Damilola Iyanda and the injury of his brother, Iyanda Femi Israel. While Iyanda Femi Israel has been discharged from the hospital after receiving treatment, the loss of Damilola Iyanda has prompted swift action from the Oyo State Police Command.

In accordance with the directives of the Commissioner of Police, the case has been assigned to the Homicide Department of the State Criminal Investigation Department, with oversight from the Deputy Commissioner of Police. This demonstrates the seriousness with which the Command is approaching the investigation, aiming to ensure thoroughness and transparency.

Currently, all officers involved in the incident, including Inspector Rasheed Saheed, are under detention at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Iyaganku. This measure indicates the commitment of the Command to hold individuals accountable for their actions and to uphold the rule of law.

In conclusion, the Oyo State Police Command seeks to reassure the public, especially the student community, of its dedication to ensuring justice is served swiftly and fairly in this matter. This tragic incident underscores the importance of thorough investigations and accountability within law enforcement agencies to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
