A pregnant woman, along with eight others, sustained injuries of varying degrees after a gas explosion rocked Alaba Lane in the Alayabiagba Community, situated within the Ajegunle-Apapa area of Lagos State.
The incident, which occurred around 12:39 p.m. on Tuesday, was attributed to a potential gas leak that ignited one of the gas cylinders being traded in the vicinity. This triggered a high-tension cable to snap, sparking a fire that ravaged four commercial tricycles, six lock-up stores, and part of a bungalow building.
Authorities from the Federal Fire Service, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, as well as local fire stations in Ajegunle and Sari-Iganmu swiftly contained the situation.
The injured, including the pregnant woman, are currently undergoing treatment at the Gbagada Burn & Trauma Center and Ajeromi General Hospital after receiving initial care from the Lagos State Ambulance Service. The victims, comprising children and adults of both genders, suffered varying degrees of burn injuries.
Efforts by the Ajegunle and Sari-Iganmu Fire Stations, along with support from the Federal Fire Service, ensured a prompt response to the incident.
This incident follows closely after another fire incident at Dosumu Market in the Lagos Island area, where at least 14 buildings were engulfed by flames, as previously reported by Drivetvnews.
